The Government House

Today the  21-April 2012  peoples are invited by the government to visit the renovation of the  new part of the Goverment House which was  destroyed by fire on  the 16 February 2006. The gates of the house remains closed  except  for official  occasions such as opening of parlaiment. The interior is not open to the public.  The Government House  of Mauritius was the most important building  of the political life in Mauritius, the  building is  french colonial structure was build by Mahé de  Labourdonnais in the  year 1738. In front of the building and in the courtyard a statue of Queen Victoria which in summertime is shaded by flamboyants trees. Beyond it is the statue of William Stevenson who was the British Governor of Mauritius from the year1857 to 1863 .  Today it is the official center of the government although parliamentary  issues are debated in the modern National  Assembly.
